How to get started
Become a member by filling in an entry form in person at any of the golf courses on the day of competition OR by filling out our online enrolment form. How to Book
Bookings at any home course open two weeks prior to each competition. The earlier you book the greater your chance of getting a preferred tee time. Make all bookings directly through the pro shop of the course you wish to play. When making bookings please state that you are with the Miners Golf Club and state the first initial and full surname of each player you are booking. If you are playing with a non-member book them in as a visitor. Please also state whether you are walking or require an electric cart.
Tee times can be booked from 15 minutes after sun up year round until no later than 11:00pm - this ensures that we have enough time to post results by 8pm on the night of the competition.
- Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to tee-off. To ensure that all players get a chance to play groups will be required to tee-off on time with no exceptions! It is imperative that you call the pro shop asap if you pull out of your tee time or are running late! This will allow players searching for a game at late notice an opportunity to play in the competition.

On Course Policies
Speed of Play
To ensure that all players are able to complete their rounds we need to set a maximum time of 4 hours and 15 minutes for each round. This should be ample time for a group of four players to complete the course and equates to just under 15 minutes per hole. It is the responsibility of the player with the lowest handicap in the playing group to make sure you are running on time.
Motorised Carts
It is imperative that Miners Golf Members do not break the Golf Course rules with regard to where the carts can go. Carts should remain within the marked cart areas and should NOT be driven onto tee boxes, through deep rough, or close to the greens under any circumstance. As a new club it is vital that our reputation as a playing group remain positive. Any one breaking the rules may risk being banned from playing on the golf course as per the course rules.
Hitting up on the Group in front
Please ensure that players in the group in front are out of reach before playing your shot.
Your Scorecard
Please ensure that your scorecard includes the following information:
- - Player and Partner’s full name and handicap
- - The competition date
- - Both players signatures at the end of the round
- - Your results posted in the box on the top right hand side of the scorecard
Upon completion please put your scorecard in the “Entry Fees & Scorecards” box provided in the pro-shop.
Entering Competitions
An “Entry Fee & Scorecards” box is situated in the pro-shop at each golf course. On top of the box we have provided envelopes and pencils. Each player in the competition should put their $6 entry fee into an envelope, print their name clearly on the front and place it in the box. Players who fail to enter their entry fee will be ineligible for the weekly competition prizes. Such players will still have their handicaps adjusted and their results added to the order of merit but will be expected to back-pay their entry fee during their next competition round.Competitions & Scoring
Competitions are held on Mondays at Maylands, Tuesdays at the Vines, Wednesdays at Wembley Thursdays at Glen Iris Fridays at Secret Harbour Saturdays at Maylands and Sundays at The Vines. In the event of a public holiday the competition will be cancelled. Miners golf plays three different forms of competition, stroke, stableford and par. To learn how to score these different formats there is a brief description on pages 108-109 in your (2004-2007) rules book.
Weekly Competition: Weekly Miners tournaments will be held 7 days a week offering a range of prizes.
Monthly Competition: The monthly Order of Merit will be based on a system of awarding ongoing points based on each players’ best monthly score. To make the competition fair, only the first 5 competitive rounds that each member plays in a given month will go towards the monthly order of merit.
Yearly Competition: The culmination of the Club will be the yearly competition, with results based on the aggregate of monthly scores.
Individual Competition: The individual obtaining the highest number of points during the year.
Inter-minesite Competition: Aside from the individual winner, a competition will run between the different organisations/minesites. The results for this competition will be made up of the performances of all players within each minesite and will reveal a yearly winner being awarded the Miners Golf Club Trophy in three Divisions.
Handicapping System
The results of every scorecard will be used to calculate an official handicap for each player (all scorecards must be handed in upon completion of play). Players will need to submit 3 scorecards to receive a handicap. Men’s maximum handicap is 36, womens is 45.
Prizes & Results
Weekly Competitions
Due to the wide spread in available tee times there is no daily prize ceremony. All results are posted on the Miners Golf Club website under Weekly Competitions on the night of the competition. You can claim prizes in the form of a pre-paid voucher from Oliver Bennett or Paul Sinden on the days of competition. The vouchers can be used in the pro-shop at which ever course you won it from.
Order of Merit
The Order of Merit is an ongoing points system based on each players best performance of each month. Points are awarded at the end of each competition month to the top 50% of the field. The amount of points awarded is based on the number of competitive rounds played during the month. These points also go towards the Minesite, or Company each individual has nominated to play for. Please note that if you change jobs or sites you must notify the club as your points will move with you to your new site. Our yearly Order of Merit is an accumulation of the monthly results and is awarded to the best players and the Minesite with the most points. Our club season currently begins on January 1st each year and ends on December 31st.
Club Championships
Club Championships are held in October and November and are based over two rounds of stroke play. You can enter two rounds anytime in the two months. You just need to stipulate before your round that it is the club champ round and must play one at either Maylands or Glen Iris and one at either The Vines or Secret Harbour. Club Champions will be awarded for Overall Gross and Overall Net results and will be awarded for A, B, C and D Grades.
Yearly Presentations
Following Club Championships each year the club will host an Ambrose event to award prizes for the Club Championships and Order of Merit. In keeping with golf tradition the Individual Order of Merit winner will be awarded the Red Dust Jacket. The jacket will be presented by the previous year’s winner. The minesite team that wins the Order of Merit will be awarded with a trophy to take back to their site. There are also a number of other great prizes awarded to winners in each grade of the Club Championships and Order of Merit. Dates, times and locations will be posted towards the end of each season.
